📖 This Week's Story

Today we're going to learn about a very special day called Epiphany, when Jesus was baptized and water became holy! Listen carefully to this wonderful story. After Jesus was born and grew up, He went to the Jordan River to see His cousin John the Baptist. John was baptizing people in the river, helping them get ready to follow God. When John saw Jesus coming, he was surprised! 'Jesus, You should baptize me!' John said. 'I'm not good enough to baptize You!' But Jesus said, 'This is what God wants us to do.' Can anyone tell me what happened when Jesus went into the water? Let's find out! When John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River, something amazing happened! The sky opened up, and the Holy Spirit came down like a beautiful dove. Then God the Father's voice spoke from heaven saying, 'This is My beloved Son, and I am very pleased with Him!' What do you think happened to the water when Jesus was baptized in it? That's right - it became blessed and holy! This is why in our Maronite Church, we have a special ceremony every Epiphany when our priests bless water. We call this the Blessing of Waters, and it reminds us of Jesus' baptism. The blessed water is very special. We can take it home and use it to bless ourselves, our families, and our houses. When we make the sign of the cross with holy water, we remember that we belong to Jesus, just like when we were baptized. Remember, children: through baptism and holy water, we are blessed to be God's children, just like Jesus showed us at the Jordan River!
