📖 This Week's Story

Today we're going to learn about the beautiful journey that Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. Long ago, the Roman emperor said that everyone had to go to their family's hometown to be counted. Joseph's family was from Bethlehem, so he and Mary had to make a long journey there. Mary was going to have her baby very soon! Can anyone tell me how you think Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem? That's right - they probably walked, and Mary might have rode on a donkey because the baby was coming soon. The journey was long and difficult. When they finally reached Bethlehem, the little town was very crowded with all the people who had come to be counted. Joseph looked everywhere for a place to stay, but all the inns were full. Finally, a kind innkeeper let them stay in his stable with the animals. That night, in that humble stable, baby Jesus was born! Mary wrapped Him in soft cloths and laid Him in a manger filled with hay. Can you imagine how happy and amazed Mary and Joseph must have felt? Even though they didn't have a fancy room, God's son was born in perfect love and peace. In our Maronite tradition, we remember that this journey to Bethlehem was part of God's beautiful plan. Sometimes journeys are hard, but God is always with us, just like He was with Mary and Joseph. The most important things in life - like love, family, and faith - don't need fancy places. Jesus came to us in the simplest way, showing us that God's love is for everyone, everywhere.
