📖 This Week's Story

Today we're going to learn about a very special story Jesus told called 'The Pearl of Great Price.' Jesus loved to teach using parables - special stories that help us understand God's love. Jesus said: 'The Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant who was looking for beautiful pearls. This merchant traveled from place to place, buying and selling precious things. He had seen many lovely pearls before, but he was always searching for something truly special.' Can anyone tell me what a pearl is? That's right! It's a beautiful, round treasure that comes from inside an oyster shell. 'One day,' Jesus continued, 'the merchant found the most magnificent pearl he had ever seen! It was perfectly round, smooth, and glowed like moonlight. This pearl was worth more than anything else he owned. The merchant knew this was the treasure he had been searching for his whole life.' What do you think the merchant did next? He sold everything he had - his house, his other pearls, his clothes, everything! - so he could buy this one perfect pearl. In our Maronite tradition, we understand that this pearl represents God's Kingdom and His love for us. Just like the merchant, we should treasure our relationship with Jesus more than anything else in the world. When we pray, come to church, and live with love in our hearts, we are choosing the most precious treasure of all. The merchant was willing to give up everything for his pearl because he knew how valuable it was. Jesus wants us to know that His love and friendship is the most precious gift we can ever receive. Nothing in this world is more valuable than knowing Jesus and being part of God's family.
