📖 This Week's Story

Today we're going to learn about the burial of Jesus, which happened after He died on the cross for our sins. This is a very important part of Holy Week that we remember with reverence and love. After Jesus died on Friday, a good man named Joseph of Arimathea went to Pilate and asked if he could take Jesus' body. Joseph was a secret follower of Jesus, but now he was brave enough to show his love openly. Can anyone tell me why Joseph might have been scared before to show he loved Jesus? Joseph wrapped Jesus' body in clean white linen cloths, just as was the custom. Another man named Nicodemus helped him, bringing sweet-smelling spices like myrrh and aloes. They treated Jesus' body with great care and respect, because even though He had died, they knew He was still their beloved Lord. Then they placed Jesus in a brand new tomb that Joseph owned - it was carved right into the rock of a hillside. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James watched sadly as they rolled a big stone in front of the entrance. The tomb was sealed, and guards were placed there. Do you think this was really the end of the story? In our Maronite tradition, we remember this solemn day with quiet prayers and waiting. The disciples felt so sad and confused. They didn't understand yet that something wonderful was about to happen! Even when things seem hopeless and dark, God has a plan. Jesus was buried, but His story wasn't over. Sometimes in our lives, we feel sad or scared, but we can remember that God is always with us, even in the darkest times. Just wait until we learn what happens next!
