📖 This Week's Story

Today we're going to learn about an amazing story that happened after Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday! Two of Jesus' friends were walking on a long road to a town called Emmaus. They were very sad because they thought Jesus was gone forever. As they walked and talked, a stranger joined them on the road. But they didn't recognize that this stranger was actually Jesus! Can anyone guess why they couldn't see who He really was? The stranger listened to their sadness and began explaining all the wonderful things about Jesus from the scriptures. Their hearts felt warm and happy as He spoke! When they reached Emmaus, they invited the stranger to eat dinner with them. And here's the most exciting part - when the stranger took bread, blessed it, and broke it to share with them, suddenly their eyes were opened! They recognized it was Jesus! But just as they realized who He was, Jesus disappeared from their sight. The two friends were so excited! They immediately ran all the way back to Jerusalem to tell the other disciples the good news. Can you imagine how fast they must have run? This beautiful story reminds us that Jesus is always with us, especially when we gather to break bread together in our Maronite liturgy. Just like those friends on the road, sometimes we might not see Jesus right away, but He is always walking beside us, ready to fill our hearts with joy and hope. During our Holy Qurbono, when the priest breaks the bread, we remember this special moment when Jesus revealed Himself to His friends.
